Introducing an upcoming Crochet Along! Work along as we make this darling Poca the Bear or Poca the Bear Lovey! Both patterns use basic stitches and the color work on the blanket looks deceivingly difficult (its actually very easy!). This post contains affiliate links which means I get a very small commission at no extra cost to you.

It’s been far too long since I have planned a crochet along (CAL). I love seeing the flow of individual flair on the same project and it’s so fun to all work together on the same thing.

This bear has been a very special project for me and has taken me quite some time to perfect. When my son was in the PICU after his accident he was given a teddy bear from a family friend. He loved how floppy the bear’s the arms and legs were and I loved its sweet face. It was special to him, which made it special to me.

Months later, I set out to create a crochet version. It was a lot of trial and error, changing my mind, sending off to testers, changing my mind again, making last minute changes…etc. But it’s finally completed and I am so excited to share it with you. (I even have plans for some fun variations 🥰)

POCA THE BEAR CROCHET ALONG

This CAL will be a bit different than the other ones I have done. This pattern will be a premium pattern and will be available in my Ravelry and Etsy shops, however, during the CAL, those who participate will be able to get the pattern parts for free on my blog.

Also, the other difference is the CAL will only be available to my email tribe! If you are interested in joining in the fun,  be sure to sign up for my emails.

Psst: There is absolutely no charge to subscribe to my emails!  Read all the benefits of becoming part of Whistle and Ivy  here.

  1. I only just received an email about the CAL. And it was for day 3. Can the other days be easily found by searching your blog?

  2. Hi Beth,
I got my first email yesterday for Poca’s snout but I did not receive an email today. Am I just being over-anxious? I would hate to miss a step! Thanks – love these little bears!!

  3. Hi Beth
I was late finding you and signing up for the CAL. Are you able to email the link to me?
    Thank you
    Cheri

  4. Just what I need to bust up some stash, I’ve some one I’m thinking for this adorable bear.
Blessings for your new addition, Let the adventures begin!

  5. It’s a bit late for me to notice because I’ve already done my “homework” from yesterday, but did you realise the requirements list here lists a different hook size compared with the Day 1 instructions? I would probably use the 3.5mm hook anyway as I don’t own a 3.75mm one, but just so you know when it comes to putting your paid pdf together…

    1. I am missing day 5, I believe, I have snout, arms head, but not body and legs of CAL but I would buy the pattern in order to get the entire pattern. How do I get the pattern?

  6. Hi Beth! I LOVE your blog. I participated (late) to the solar system CAL and love how it turned out. I was so excited to start the bear! He’s so cute! I got my link today but the password isn’t working. I tried caps and without and still no luck. I can’t wait to get started. Anyone else having trouble logging in?

  7. I’m so excited. I’ve been wanting to take part in your CALs, but time constraints always prevented me. Not this time,I finally have the time. Yea!

  8. I too am looking forward to doing this delightful snuggle bear with everyone else. I’ve been subscribed to your email for a while, Beth. Like some of you, I’m having to substitute some colors I can’t find, but so far, I’m happy with what I have though so will enjoy the stitch. I’m an older crocheter from way back who started out with fine thread on doilies, then lots of toys, clothing items, and seasonal figures in worsted weight, mostly Red Heart, which can’t be beat. I wish I still had my leprechaun and pot o’ gold, LOL!

I went on a posting-to-Pinterest spree of your patterns, Bethany! LOVE the Mexican/Southwestern ones! I need to get the scruffy yarn for cacti.

    1. Thank you so much for your support Nancy! I appreciate it so much! I am so amazed at doily work, that is not something I have ever tried, but it’s SO beautiful. Thank you for joining in the CAL, I hope you enjoy it!

  9. My son and daughter-in-law are expecting a baby in August. I would like to join the CAL for the lovie. How do I sign up?

  10. I’ve never worked with safety eyes. Is there a certain “age limit”? I’d like cave to make these!

    1. Hm. I am not entirely sure about that. They are next to impossible to pull out, so I think they are quite safe, but I am not an expert on this.

  11. Oh those are adorable! I can’t wait to start on it :) Thank you for doing this, I’ve never done a crochet along before.

  12. These are adorable! My son and daughter-in-law are expecting twin girls in June, they will be perfect to make. I might have to sneak in a little pink.

  13. Oh my gosh CUTE factor ++++ I have ordered my yarn already so it will be here on time to start :)
