Baby Sandals Construction:

Use your darning needle to attach the opposite side of your bow strap. Going in and out, sew it to the sc on the other side of the shoe. Make sure to thoroughly weave in the ends.

To make the flap into a bow, pinch it with your fingers (pinch it so the edges are going upwards, and the inside bumps up) and tie a knot of yarn using the same color leaving a long tail (Keep it a little bit loose) Make sure the knot is on the under side. Then, using the tail, wrap the yarn around the center of the strap 5 or 6 times. Tie off. You can also secure it with a dab of hot glue.

  1. I have a question about the Body part of the patter. You say to ch 1 then sc in the same st and then it just says sc 28. Is that in the same st as the first sc??

    1. No, sorry! If you are having trouble on your device, try using a different reader app. The watermark is light gray.

  2. Im a rookie at making anything other than blankets. I’m stuck at step 2 and don’t understand what to do to move on :-(

These are adorable and I think with the tiniest bit of help I’ll be successful. Thank you!

    1. To make an increase you have to work more than one stitch together. So work 2 sts together in three stitched around the heel (6 sts total), sc up the side, then do the same for the toe, sc 2 together in the next 5 sts. It’s an increase a bit like a hat, otherwise, if you worked one st in each st, it would just curl up like a bowl.

  3. Just curious what the gauge is and whether or not you have measurements for what each one would be in inches instead of just 6-9 months, 9-12 months as these can be pretty difficult to figure out because my one year old might fit in a 6 month old shoe and vice versa.

      1. Hello Bethany, I love the little baby sandels you have created. My favorite ones are the Baby flipflop sandels. I tried to follow the link for the pattern but all I get is an empty page. I never had any problem down loading a pdf before. Is there any way you could email the pattern to me directly? I am sorry for asking but I would like to make these for a friend of mine’s baby. I would greatly appreciate if you could.
        Thank you .
        Sarah

      2. Thanks for posting these measurements! Can you tell me about what the measurement might end up being for the 9-12 month size? My daughter is 18 months and wears a size 5 shoe. I’m dying to try one of your adorable patterns!

  4. Im trying to get the patterns of the baby sandles but i cant can you help me down load the patterns thank you from Puerto Rico

  5. These patterns are adorable, but they are very hard to understand and the instructions are not very clear at all. For alot of the pattern I had to improvise to achieve the look that is shown in the pictures, and when I come to a part in the pattern that says to reference a picture, the picture doesn’t really help :( cute ideas, just needs better explanation.

  6. I saw your pattern for the flip flop sandals and just had to try to make them. When I went to your site, I noticed you had other patterns as well and I say the Bitty Bow sandals. Well, I decided to try them first. I did not have an E hook (I never used smaller needles before) so I decided to use an F and since I was experimenting I uses some scrap yarn I had (Dazzleaire by Caron). I figured that was about right….did I figure wrong. I used the pattern for the 9-12 mos size. I had fun making the shoes (well I got one done, just started the other and will send pic when I am finished). The shoe came out rather big and as I was showing to my granddaughter (she is just 3 this month) we decided to see if they fit her. A perfect fit!!! And she loves them and can’t wait til grandma finishes the other one. Just thought I’d let you know as I saw a post about someone wanting to make the shoes for her 3-year-old granddaughter. Maybe this will help her figure it out. Thanks so much for the pattern. It has been great fun making these and it was my first time!!

  7. I am so impressed with your patterns! My son taught himself to crochet years ago. I’ve asked him to make me a pair. I bet they would be a great hit with all ages! Good luck with that honey! Best wishes, Julie

  8. I’m having a problem with the pdf, there is a big black square in the middle of each page of the pdf file that says whistle and ivy and the letters are black on top of it so the whole middle section of the page is blacked out and I can’t read it. I really like the sandals that are similar from this lovely life and they are the ones I typically use, but today I needed a larger pattern and found these beauties. Is there any other way to see the pattern for the 9-12 months?

    1. Are you using a device? A few commenters have said using a different reader will help. The pattern has a very light gray watermark that does not interfere with the pattern. This pattern is only written up to 6-9 months, but if you use a bit bulkier yarn and a G hook, they will probably be perfect.

    2. Are you using a reader? Other commenters have said using a different reader on your device takes care of the problem. That pattern has a light gray watermark that doesn’t interfere with the pattern if your device displays it correctly.

  9. I do not enjoy having to soend so much time to get to the pattern. I still am not able to get it. Is there an easy way to get to it?

  10. These look so cute! I am going to attempt them. My only complaint is that it is a PDF that can not be edited and it is 9 pages long. I have to print 4 pages just to get the smallest size.

    1. Thanks so much! I am glad you like the pattern :) Sorry you had to print so many pages! I am sure you can understand why putting out a pattern that is editable by anyone might be problematic for me, though :)

      1. I totally understand. Just consider maybe putting each size separately or maybe a little smaller font or less space to conserve paper. :-) Thank You! I finished the soles and Now I am going to see if I can understand the next part.

    2. You should be able to choose to print only certain pages. You’ll get might get small portions of the sizes before and after the size you want, but otherwise you’ll get just the part you need. That’s what I did to print the size I need. HTH

  11. i just became a great grandma to a beautiful baby girl Selena Nicole born may 25 2014 I have made her a bunch of booties, ponchos , and blankies and i am gonna make her a bunch of these in different colors i can not wait to get started. 1. Hi Gerri! Congrats your great granddaughter, how wonderful :) You can view all my pattern by clicking the link, I usually put it under the last photo. Happy hooking to you as well!

  12. Hi. I’m stuck on 3-6 mo . After you sl st the two soles together do I tie off, cut the yarn?

  13. Hello, I am stuck on the body for the 9-12 month. On a, what do you mean by sc 33? Where exactly do you do this?

    1. Single crochet 33 sts around the shoe, going through the sl sts. Make sure you begin in the specified place.

      1. Glad someone else was having this issue! I am working on the 0-3 month, and were it says “Ch1, sc in same st, then 28 sc” I was like “whaa?? where am I supposed to stitch these??” lol :)

  14. Is there anyway you could tell me how to do a size 10/11 my daughter really wants these but shes 3

    1. Well you would have to make it longer and wider. I’ve figured that 2 chs on the foundation equals one size up (in length). If you can figure out how many sizes up a size 10/11 is from a 9-12 months shoe size, you can make your ch longer. But you also need to compensate for the wider width, which will work out to more stitches on the ends because you will be doing more rounds. It might be a bit of a pain! But I am working on getting some of my patterns in children’s and toddler sizes. I put this one in the docket :)

      1. What is your specific problem, can you explain in more detail? This part of the pattern is making the top bow part. It will look like a strap, not like a bow (that comes later). You start with a ch to make its length, and then you build its width by going up and down to make it wider. And so it is attached properly, you will need to sl st the row onto the shoe each time you come back down to it.

  15. Just thot I would mention, I saw something similar to these (I dont remember where), and they sprayed the soles with that new rubbery non-stick stuff. It turned them into non-skid sandals!! Very cool. If you try it, just put the completed sandal upside down in a piece of cardboard cutout so the sandal just fits in the hole. You only want the spray to hit the very bottom of the sandal. What a great idea.

    1. That is a great idea! A spray-on would be easy to apply, and would go on evenly. Perfect for a walking baby, thanks for sharing this tip!
