This past winter was a winter of chunky yarn. I had so much fun making scarves and hats that I almost didn’t want the cold weather to go away. The warm weather has a silver lining though (and I am not even talking about shorts and flip-flops), it pushed me to make something pretty with chunky yarn! This Beach Waves pillow brings beachy and cool colors into my home, and I love how BIG and CHUNKY this yarn is! Red Heart Grande has pushed it’s way into my top favorite chunky yarns.
I love how quickly this pillow came together. Once you get the hang of switching colors on the sc row, the pillow works up very quickly.

What you need:
Red Heart Grande (3 balls of 1st color, 1 ball of each 2nd and 3rd colors)
Size P hook
16″ Pillowform
Abbreviations: (American Terms)
St – Stitch
Sc – Single Crochet
Dc – Double Crochet
Ch – Chain
Gauge: 6 sts=4″
Front:
Using 1st color, Ch 25.
1. Dc in 3rd ch from hook. Dc 22. Turn. (23 sts)
2. Ch 1. Sc in same st. Join 2nd color by bringing up a loop, and finishing the first sc. You will be alternating between 1st and 2nd color with each st. Each st will be finished with the next color. Refer to this video by Moogly for a great way to do this and carry your yarn.
3. Using 2nd color. Ch 2.
Dc in same st. Dc in each st. (23 sts)
4. Ch 1. Sc in same st. Join 3rd color by putting a loop on your hook and pulling through to finish the first sc. Alternate between 2nd and 3rd colors for each sc across. (23 sts)
5. Using 3rd color, ch 2.
Dc in same st. Dc in each st across. (23 sts)
Continue this pattern of a row of dc, following by a row of sc, alternating colors. Be sure to alternate the sc with the color you wish to use in the following row, until you reach row 17.
Back: Use 1st color
Ch 25.

2. – 13. Ch 2. Dc in same st. Dc 22. Turn. (23 sts)
Construction:
Line up the front and the back. Using the same color as the back, join your yarn on any side and ch 1. Sc in same st and sc in each st on THREE sides (try to make the side stitches as even and neat as possible). Be sure to work 3 sc in each corner.
Insert your pillow form and finish sc along the remaining side. Sl st to join with first sc and tie off.
I love how making a new pillow can brighten any room!
