BOHO GRANNY SQUARE SLOUCHY – CROCHET PATTERN

Admittedly, granny squares have historically not been my favorite project. Of course, like many of you I assume, my first project included the granny stitch, but when I started designing over a decade ago, my goal has always been to create fresh, modern designs and help bring crochet to more people, and granny squares simply didn’t fit my aesthetic.

But here we are in 2023 and high fashion has been yarn-bombed with granny squares and crochet bucket hats and I see that a few tweaks and a modern color palette can make all the difference in the world! XD

ABOUT THIS HAT

This hat is perfect for advance beginners, and even a beginner who feels comfortable with granny squares can make this hat! It includes very simple construction and seaming. This hat is also fanatic for busting through any scraps you have, as you only need a few yards of each color for each square. I chose to do my entire hat with 4 colors, but it would be fantastic to see your color choices and if you deiced to use more.

I used a neutral tone for the outer color stripe of the square for the dark hat, but I decided to try a color for the light hat, and it turned out lovely! You can mix it up with just a small tweak of color and make your hat all your own.

The granny square hat includes sizing from infant to large adult, so you can make one for everyone in the family! Maybe you have fall photos coming up?

What you need: 
– 5mm Hook
– Worsted Weight Yarn (Lion Brand Heartland) 1 skein of main color, less than 1 skein of each of 4-5 contrasting colors)
– Fur/Yarn Pom-pom (optional) 
– Darning Needle
