Our neighbors moved out a few months ago, and the day after they left we noticed they left a cute little dresser behind on the side of the road. I knew I had to pick it up and bring it home, so my husband ran out and grabbed it (before anyone else could!). Not a week later, Modern Master’s contacted me about trying their line of metallic paint, and I knew the Steel Gray would be perfect for this little dresser.
I just loved the flat front of the dresser, and I knew it would be fun to do a stenciled pattern.
I actually made that stencil with a plastic school folder. I was inspired by Brook at All Things Thrifty.
And since I have a Silhouette machine, I used it to cut the stencil. I used the “Adhesive Magnet” setting, and inserted it without the cutting mat. You can also do it Brooke’s way and cut it out by hand.
After cutting my shape, I taped it into place. You can also use a spray adhesive. For the top, I used a foam brush and blotted the Steel Gray metallic paint, just one thin layer. Keep a towel handy. You can immediately move on to the next spot if you blot the excess paint off the back of your stencil.
I painted the drawers a solid metallic. Then, I lined them up in order and flush with each other on my deck and used the same stencil. I just eyeballed it, so the stencils aren’t perfectly align. To make it perfect, you will need to measure and draw some lines.
To add a little color, I painted the top a sea foamy-green.
Here is the before and after.
