I know that people have been wearing these adorable bird’s nest necklaces for a couple years, but I finally decided to try and make one. I am kind of “one of those” who are cautious and unsure of new trends and then finally jump on the bandwagon when the trends on on their way out. Sigh.
Regardless, I couldn’t believe how easy they are to make. And the fresh-water pearls look so beautiful!
I used this great tutorial by Sarah Ortega. They are quite simple to make, but it takes a little bit of practice. My first one looked a bit shabby, my second one looked better but not quiet presentable, and then this was my third one! It only takes a few minutes to make each one. I just went back and rewrapped the bad ones after I got the hang of it, and they looked beautiful.
She didn’t have pictures of how to finish once you have made the nest. I just twisted all my ends together and kind of tucked them under using needle-nosed pliers. Take care to tuck them, so they aren’t scratchy or pokey. The 24 gauge wire is thin enough that you can manipulate it fairly easily.
For the earrings, I just used one bead and used the same twisting method to make the nest around it.
Two jump rings, a couple earring findings and a thin chain later and I have a whole jewelry set!
This little set is absolutely perfect for spring.
Love this necklace so cute!!
Thanks so much!
