Ric Rac Striped Scarf - Make this quick and chunky crochet scarf with this free pattern.

I usually love the beginning of the week, but I have been dragging my feet lately. The last few days have been a bit of challenge. I am feeling overwhelmed, and I know it’s due to my own lack of organization. I also feel like I am losing on the parenting front. My 4-year-old son is so sweet,  so silly and funny, but he has really been challenging my patience this week. Maybe it’s hard because I see such a stark difference between him and my 13-month-old. She is happy ALL DAY LONG. She plays and giggles and never talks back, which is how my son used to be.  But then he and I snuggle under the covers after reading a book, and I am reminding of how much I love being a mother. I should probably just stay in bed all day tomorrow and hold on to it.
Crochet has been an extra important outlet, and these chunky, quick projects have been so cathartic. This Ric Rac Striped Scarf was made as a gift, but I am tempted to make one for myself, it’s so cozy and fun.

I originally made this lovely scarf as a long scarf, but realized it would be easy and quick to write instructions for an infinity version as well. I recommend Hometown USA, and you will need two balls (almost exactly).

Leave the ends! You can use them as fringe, but be sure to add more so the fringe is full. Take a length of yarn, fold it in half and pull the fold through the end of the scarf. Then, pull the two ends through the fold and pull tight, securing the fringe. Repeat until you feel the fringe is as full as you would like.

  1. Where can I find the Hometown USA brand and how do I get the choose the right thickness of yarn if I can’t find that brand? (Sorry for being clueless)

    These scarfs are so cute!!

    1. Thank you! Joann and Walmart sell it, it is made my Lion Brand, so depending on where you live, you should be able to buy it online. It is considered a “super bulky” so any yarn that weight *should* work ( I can only personally vouch for Hometown).

    2. My favorite for the price. I get mine at Walmart. It comes in 5 oz skeins and us labelled a 6 for super bulky. Any yarn in a 6 would work too.

  2. Great scarf pattern. Thanks for sharing.
    You are a wonderful mom.
