About two years ago I bought the pattern for this sweet crochet cat mermaid, called a “Purrmaid”, from a shop on Etsy, called Hooked By Robin. Despite how much I loved the pattern and how cute I knew the finished plushy would be, it took me another year to finally start on it (whoops!)
However, something came up and the little cat mermaid was put on the shelf.
Then, last month Sis found the half-made kitty in my office and asked about it. I decided to whip it out that night and finish it for her. It turned out so cute!
CROCHET CAT MERMAID CROCHET PATTERN
The pattern is so delightfully easy to work with plenty of photos and well explained instruction. I was thrilled at how my crochet cat mermaid turned out (I think Sis loves her too).
The pattern designer is Robin from Hooked by Robin. Back when I bought the pattern, it was for sale in her shop, but she has recently released a free tutorial on your youtube channel!
You can find a playlist of 6 videos that make a complete tutorial for this adorable Purrmaid here. It’s very nice that it’s broken up into bite-sized pieces!
You can also find Robin on Facebook, where you shares updates on her videos and new designs.
CAT MERMAID YARN
I chose Red Heart Gumdrops for the tail, as I hoped the little bits of color would look like pretty colored scales on the tail.
It did not disappoint. Isn’t it lovely?
Once I found the Gumdrop yarn, I wondered which yarn would work well with it for the rest of the kitty (mixing yarn lines is not usually a good idea!) but Red Heart Soft worked really well and has a similar texture. I recommend it if you are using Gumdrop for the tail.
Also, I thought the closed eyes are so, so cute, but Sis asked afterwards why her new crochet cat mermaid’s eyes are always closed, so you might consider changing the eyes for your little one!
I think it would be cute both ways.
Robin has also agreed to be my first-ever Guest Designer for my All-Access Membership! The PDF for this pattern is available for all members of GO PREMIUM, wahoo! You can get it on the Main Pattern Page under NEWLY ADDED.

It is a lovely little Cat mermaid! I feel like I would want it a little bigger, and maybe the arms need to be a little longer. Other than that, I love it!!
You could! Use bulkier yarn and making the arms longer would be simply working more rows. I hope you can share your finished purrmaid with me on social media, I would love to see it!
