Make your own creations with this basic baby sole pattern | Whistle and Ivy

It’s actually for ALL of you, but since I have a sole video on my Youtube channel, I have gotten questions about how to find the basic baby sole pattern on my blog. I did the videos separately so that I wouldn’t have to keep shooting myself making the sole for each shoe pattern.  I decided to write this up so it can be found easier! This pattern is for the basic baby sole.

The sole is found in each pattern on my blog, but many people are viewing the video and using it to make their own creations! If you make up your own (or make anything using my patterns, too!), I would love to see it! Post it on my Facebook page or post it on Instagram and hashtag #mywhistlecrochet or tag me @whistleandivy. I love to see what you do with the patterns! My reader are so creative, I love seeing your work!

  1. Hi Bethany I have a question about your pattern. I’m a new crocheter so I’m not sure what certain terms mean. For example when you say “2 sc in next st* work 5 times” does that mean 10 sc in one st or 2 sc in the next 5 st

  2. Can you do soles for an 8 or 9 year old? My son’s been wanting some booties but I can’t figure out how to do soles in his size. I’ve tried doing different sizes but with very little luck. Thank you for this pattern love it :-)

  3. Hey. I love this pattern. Thanks! Do you have the measurements width and length so I can compare if I use a different size yarn? That way I know about what size I made. Thanks!!

    1. Thanks! Yes, the measurement lengths are in the pattern (in parenthesis after the size). I don’t have the width, however, sorry! I have provided to gauge, so if you make a pair and meet the gauge, you can use yours to measure.

  4. Ahhhh, thank you so much Bethany for giving this pattern for FREE! I have been looking for one for a long time and i finally came across your blog, not to mention how easy your patterns are to read. This is now my go to pattern for baby shoes/soles. I have already made like three pairs of shoes. Thanks again, Miriam.

  5. If instead of worsted thread simple cotton threads to be used, what should be pattern, as there is thickness difference in both these thread.

    1. I probably will not be able to do a video anytime soon, I am sorry! The increases are actually exactly the same as the other sizes, you are just working in hdc.

  6. Hey there I need to make a sole for about a size 9 or 10 toddler And I was wondering if everything was the same as a size 8 besides the sc just increasing that by 1 or 2 depending. Just wondering if the DC the HDC counts would be the same?

    1. Hello, I’m also working on a sole for a toddler (shoe size is 8) ~ how many chains should i do to begin this project! And I absolutely LOVE your creativity! thanks so much for sharing :-)

  7. Is it the same for both baby feet? The sole pattern by any chance.
I am very lucky to find your tutorial on YouTube.

    Best regards
    Tammiann.

  8. Thank you for the great sole pattern. I was guided to your site by Meladoras tutorial on youtube. I have also subscribed to your youtube channel.
    regards Moira

  9. HI Bethany, I love your projects. I have watched your video on the 3-6 month soles but for some reason can not get them to come out right. Everything seems to go ok until i get to the 3rd row. I have took my work apart over 40 times trying to get it to come out. I have even had my husband watch the video with me to make sure I”m doing it right. Like i said it seems to stop going correct on the 3rd row.

    1. You might be confused on the increases. Does your row two have 34 sts? The increase on row 3 is different than on row 2, you will work one single in between the increases (2 sts worked in the same st), resulting in 42 total stitches.

  10. Hi I’m trying to get the pattern for the soles and for some reason I don’t see it I don’t know if the ads are blocking it or what.

    1. If you scroll to the bottom and click where it says “Get the pattern here”, where the lettering is in bold, it will bring it up. Let me know if you need more help.

  11. Hey, I am trying to figure out how to make up a pair of Jake the never land pirates boots that can be slip covered over my sons shoes for his Halloween costume, but im not sure of the pattern for a toddler size 8. Do you have a sole or booties pattern for that size I could use as reference?

  12. Hey, I’m just wondering my sister is having a baby girl and asked if I knew how to crochet. I don’t, but I have learned to knit ruffled scarves on YouTube. So I really want to surprise her by crocheting baby sandals for her baby. I was wondering what kind of threads you use? I’m going to to invest in some crocheting items this weekend. Thanks!

    1. How lovely of you to learn to crochet for your sister! That is so sweet. I use a 10 ply (worsted) acrylic yarn (Caron Simply Soft) for my shoes, and a size 3.5 mm hook. I have also had great luck with worsted weight yarn by KnitPicks and they have so many lovely colors.

  14. Hi there I’m just wondering do you have a sole pattern for a 2-3 year old. I’m useless at navigating through websites

  15. What is the gauge? In the pattern you said use an F hook or whatever size to obtain gauge but I didn’t see a gauge written in your pattern.

  16. I did your baby sole pattern for 6-9 months 3 times and it does not come out right. Is the pattern correct?

        1. I used a 4 mm. I’m not sure where I messed up but I do enjoy your patterns so I just have to get my soles from somewhere else and come back for the rest of the shoe.

          1. You didn’t mess up you just have a tighter gauge, does that make sense? I am told I crochet very loose, so if you don’t crochet as loose as me, your finished item would be smaller than mine. How long was yours?
