Hey all! This is another square for our plaid patchwork blanket that isn’t plaid, however, I thought the rustic nature of this antler square would work wonderfully with the project. I do want you to make your blanket how YOU want, so if antlers are too woodsy for you, just make 2 extra squares of one of the other designs.

I don’t really know what happened here, but the light antler square turned out better than the dark one! I would recommend  having a light background for that reason. And keep in mind that finer color work in turning rows will look less-than-perfect up close, so just remember to respect the process and understand it won’t have perfectly defined lines.

Ch does not count as a stitch, work the first st of each row in the same st as the chain.

Make 2 CROCHET ANTLER BLANKET SQUARES

1.Using White, work a sc foundation with 34 sts (approx. 9″) Turn.

2. – 35. Work the graph, treating each square as a sc, working with White and Charcoal.
Notes: Use bobbins with dark gray yarn for the inside antler spikes and carry the same white strand through entire row. On row 27, when working the second antler, you will carry the gray when you come to it (on the inside spike)  so you can use it when you need it on the main spike. Once you are finished with the inside spikes, you can drop the bobbins and work with one gray on each side.

BORDER:
With white (or color of your background): Sc evenly all around the square, working 3 sc in each corner. Weave in ends.

  1. Hello! I crocheted the antler section however it is significantly smaller than the other squares? I used DC for the plaid and the geometric but SC exactly like the pattern but it’s so much smaller? I tried to attach a picture but it won’t let me. It’s about 2 inches short on two sides.

    1. When working color work, it sometimes can be a bit tighter, but blocking should solve the problem. You may need to go up a hook size or two for your other graph squares.

  2. Hi Bethany! thank you so much for this! I purchased the pattern on Etsy, I love it so much! Can you clarify if it is a typo when you say “treating each square as a sc” since, the rest of the pattrns are dc, I’m afraid this square won’t be comparable in hight as the others?

    Thanks for your help!

    1. Yes definitely. You are basically choosing between carrying yarn and having some of it poke through, or choose to use bobbins and have extra ends to weave in.

  3. Hi! I am wanting to start this CAL (I know, a bit late), and I am having trouble finding the Red Heart Soft in Charcoal. I even checked their direct website, and it doesn’t list Charcoal as a color carried in the Soft line. Can I substitute Caron Simply Soft?

    1. Nevermind! I just found the 10oz skein, which has the charcoal color! Can’t wait to get started, this is a beautiful afghan.

  4. Hello Bethany! I am so excited to make this blanket! Do you have a graph pattern for the antlers? It is not showing up on this web page.

        1. Hi, I bought the plaid patchwork blanket and as I am a beginner will it be possible to have a written patten or a video of the deer antlers crochet square, please.
          Thank you

          1. Hi Marie! As stated in my listing, the graph section of the patterns are not written out. I do not have a video, I am sorry! but I would love to offer you assistance. Can you explain your problem in detail and I can talk you through it?
