This Women’s Button Trapper Hat has been a long time coming. I got so many requests from readers who loved the Baby Trapper Hat, but couldn’t seem to find room on my calendar for it. That is why I love the end of December and the month of January: new beginnings. It’s a perfect time to get settle down after the busy holiday and work on things you haven’t had time for. This hat is worked with two strands, so it’s fun, chunky and really warm.

Make the tassels by cutting 6 lengths of yarn about a yard long. Hold them in a bunch with their ends lined up, and pull all 6 through the bottom of the back flap using your hook, letting 12 strands hang down. Braid the strands together and tie a knot. Trim the ends even. Repeat for the other side.

  1. Bethany, I not sure I understand about not sharing your patterns with friends? If I send them a link, and they subscribe to your site. How is that not helping you? Some of my friends are not real computer savvy. We enjoy working your patterns and copying them is the only way they can do them. I don’t sell them. We use them for our volunteer work. Others I just keep in my pattern library

    1. Hi Janet. Sharing links is very much appreciated and helps my blog very much. The type of sharing I mean is printing off my patterns and distributing them. I give the patterns for free, and in exchange I receive compensation through sponsorships and advertising, based on the number of people who visit my site. If people print off and distribute my patterns, then they are getting a free pattern, but I am not getting the compensation of a click on my website. I click in exchange for a free crochet pattern is a very fair deal in my opinion! If I am unable to get the page views, I will need to sell my patterns to be able to earn an income (I work 40+ hours per week on my blog). Thank you for clicking to my blog to get my patterns and supporting an independent designer!

  2. I am almost done and it would barely fit a one year old… did anyone else have this problem? I had made one for a 6month old and loved it and wanted to make one for my sister in law. Am I doing something wrong?

      1. Yes I used medium gauge but one smaller hook. I’m going to buy bigger yarn hoping that will help and then use a bigger hook as well 😕

  3. I know you love buttons and I was wondering where you get your buttons. The selection at my Joann is not great and I love your buttons.

  4. Bear with us poor souls who don’t crochet as much as many of you do….. since the pattern specifies using 2 strands, does this mean you need two skeins of each color for this pattern? Thank you!!!

  5. Oh Gosh! This is so super cute! I’d love to make one for my sister in her favorite team colors. Pinning for later.
I would love for you to join us and share each week at Brag About It link party on VMG206 (Mondays at Midnight).

  6. Hi there! Just finished the women’s trapper hat, loved the pattern it works up so quick, now my husband wants one. How can I adjust this for an adult male size?

      1. No, I didn’t want him to try it on because I think it will stretch out. It fits my head perfectly and my head is about 21″. And he’s about 22.5. Do you think if made one more row of increase rows it would work or would I have to add more stitches to the ear flap rows too?

        1. Adding another increase row would increase it too much I think, but you can try it and see what you have. It usually increases by a few inches, and you only need one. You want the hat smaller than your actual head circumference by about an inch. I would really suggest using a larger hook.
