I had some premier chunky 5 weight yarn on hand so I gave it a go. I used a 6.5 mm hook. My hat worked up way thick and stiff but I was able to salvage it. I did work 32 rows then closed the side. Did not do sc on top.Closed top with running stitch 5/8″ down from top edge. Single crochet once around face. Learned a lot about yarn weight. Will use Lion Brand Scarfie and try again. Thanks so much for the pattern.
