With Valentine’s Day coming up, I have been brainstorming crochet ideas that incorporate pink, red and hearts. Unfortunately I am not too inspired, since I don’t usually go all-out for V-day. In fact, I don’t usually decorate at all. I am pretty lazy when it comes to decorating my home. Christmas decor comes out of course, but other than that, I am pretty lame. How can I spend my time rearranging my mantle when my yarn and hook look so lonely? But the idea for this cute Ombre Heart Stitch Pillow came to me and I knew I had to give it a try. One of the best parts about this pillow is that I made it into a pillow cover, instead of permanently sewn around the pillow form (like this one I made a few months ago). That way, you can display your lovely heart pillow during February, and when you are ready for a change, you can switch the cover out for something new (possibly bright and spring-y?).

The Ombre effect turned out lovely, Brava yarn from Knitpicks.com had the perfect colors to make it happen. (You may remember this color combination from my Puppy Love Slouchy).
The pillow is made almost entirely with dc stitches (the heart has a few more, but it’s still quite simple), so it’s an awesome evening project.

  1. Hi Bethany, I made this pillow as a wedding present for some friends and it turned out lovely! I am new to crocheting and got a bit mixed up with yarn weight, hook sizes etc. so I ended up with a 13×13 ” square when I had done 3 stripes! Whoops. Luckily I found a cushion the right size to fill it with and it still looked pretty good, I thought. Thanks for the pattern!

    1. You’re welcome! Glad it worked out. That’s the good thing about crochet! You can do your own spin (even if its not on purpose!) and still have a cute project :)
