This crochet fringe clutch is a makeover pattern! I designed this crochet pattern in thick acrylic/wool yarn last summer. I actually really like it in the bulky yarn, and it works up so fast, but I really wanted to make it in t-shirt yarn. I had searched but hadn’t found an affordable, readily available t-shirt yarn, so I settled for a bulky acrylic. However, a few weeks ago I discovered Bernat Home! I am currently working a few projects with it, and I made these deliciously comfortable flip-flops sandals last month. The stretchy texture is perfect for slippers. It’s SO comfortable. And of course I decided to remake my crochet fringe clutch with this newfound yarn.

Because Bernat Home yarn is not as bulky as Mighty Stitch that I used for the original design, the counts are different, but the construction is still the same.

What you need: (affiliate links)
– 7 mm Hook
– Bernat Home Yarn
Abbreviations: US Terms
Ch – chain
Sc – single crochet
Sl st – Slip Stitch
St – stitch
BLO – Back Loops Only
Gauge: (not important, just make your stitches relatively tight)
Ch 31.
1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each st across (30 sts)
2. – 3. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. (30 sts)
4. Ch 1. Sc 10. Ch 10. Sk 10 sts. Sc in each remaining st. (30 sts)
5. – 48. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. (30 sts)
49. Sc 10. Ch 10. Sk 10 sts. Sc in each remaining st. (30 sts)
50 – 52. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. (30 sts)
Don’t tie off.

Construction:
Fold the pice in half, oriented so the handles are at the top, and the bottom with loop and yarn still attached are on the back at the top. Using the connected yarn and loop, sl st down the side, sewing the two layers together.
Repeat for the other side, but go up from the bottom, so the tops of the sl sts are facing the same way as the first side.
Then, cut several 12″ pieces of yarn. To make the fringe, pull the middle of the length through the side using your hook. Pull the two ends of the length though the loop you just made and pulled through the hole. Pull down to tighten.
Repeat all along each side.
Don’t bother tying off the ends, you can use them as fringe!
