I grew up attending a yearly religious summer camp for girls. In the cool, fresh mountain air with hair and clothes smelling of campfire, we would spend time together laughing, chatting and tying friendships bracelets. It was the type of “crafting” that everyone could get on board with because it really didn’t take any special skills, you only needed a friend to teach you how.
Years later, I attended the camp as a leader/councilor. It was so sweet to be back in different mountains with the same cool air and same campfire smell in my hair and on my clothes.
Now it’s my turn to teach you, my friend!
After a bit of trial and error, I discovered that embroidery thread, which is what we used to make friendship bracelets at camp, is quite the perfect medium for bracelets! I attempted the crochet friendship bracelets with yarn, but the embroidery thread works so well, looks so pretty, and the gauge is perfect for the look we are going for.
The pattern includes four variations. I think this one is my favorite. It’s easier than you think and the color effect is marvelous.
For this week only during our Crochet Summer Camp 2022, you can get the simple striped Crochet Friendship Bracelet FREE in this blog post!

Begin by working a chain that wraps 3/4 around your wrist.
1. Work back across your chain, working in the back bump, the small loop running on behind the two loops of the chain.
Leave a 6″ tail and cut thread.
2. – 3. Begin with a 6″ tail of new color. Ch 1 in first st of row 1. Sc in each st across. Leave a 6″ tail and cut thread.
One of your bracelet ends will only have 2 tails. Cut a length of embroidery thread 12″ long, and tie it through the end, giving that side of the bracelet 4 ends.
You can finish your bracelet by making a knot and bead clasp, or you can simply tie it to your wrist.
Wrist Tie Method:
Tie the tails on either end of your bracelet into a knot, like so:
From here you can tie the bracelet to your wrist with a simple knot. Be sure to keep it loose enough that you can untie it when needed.
Tie any kind of non-slip loop knot on one end of your bracelet using the tails.
One the other end, secure a button.(make sure its large enough to fit snugly through the loop end)
My favorite way to secure it is to put 1-2 ends through the bead, drag the remaining ends up the side of the bead and tie a knot at the end of the bead to secure it.
