This sweet little crochet fox is another one of my finally-completed back burner projects. I didn’t love the yarn I initially chose, and I couldn’t quite get the chest color work right, so he lay in the bin for more than a year while I worked on other things.

I got a bug recently to work on some toys and finally pulled him out to finish him. I really wanted to finish up a penguin I have been working on, but this guy deserves to have his day.

Firstly, using Lion Brand Heartland yarn was a great choice. It has a lovely heather look and this darker brownish-orange color was the perfect color for a fox.

I also made a few changes to the coloration of the arms and legs. I really like how the transition worked out, and the technique is fairly easy.

Everyone, meet Basil the Fox!

Basil is apparently the name of a well-loved fox puppet from a 60’s children’s TV show in Britain (Thank you Alexandra for the name suggestion!). I loved the earthy, woodsy name for this cute little creature, and especially that it’s a unisex name.

As with all my other animals (Vincent/Violet the bunnies and Poca the bear), I like to include a little accessory of some kind. For this sly little fox, I chose to give Basil a simple cowl.

Because woodland animals have a bit of a fall feel to them, so I think maybe this crochet fox is comfortable with just a neck warmer. 😄
