This Christmas crochet camper pillow features an adorable retro camper with a fresh cut Christmas tree on top! The bright lights and berries for the wreath are added quickly and easily afterward with a needle and yarn. New to changing colors? I included a short video explaining how to read a graph and how to change colors. This post includes affiliate links, thank you for your support!

The kids have been champing at the bit to get the Christmas tree decorated. We were going to do it the weekend after Thanksgiving, but when we pulled out the lights, only half of them worked! Of course the lights are over 5 years old so we didn’t have replacement bulbs handy. With our tree only half-lit, we decided to wait and pull out all the other decorations instead. Sis’s absolute favorite is my Rustic Crochet Nativity. She played with the pieces for at least 45 minutes, it was so adorable. I love that they are beautiful, yet perfect for little hands.

A new piece to our Christmas decor this year is this Crochet Camper Pillow. I have been holding on to this fun pillow for a few months and I am excited to finally be able to share it with you. The graph was inspired by this embroidery I did a few years ago using a pattern by Bev from Flamingo Toes (check her out!) The vintage camper is just darling and perfect for the rustic, simple Christmas that we try to have each year.

Need help working the graph? Watch this video. Please note this graph is worked by turning, so it’s a bit different than in-the-round graphs. You won’t need to work in the back loop only, you won’t carry the colors through the whole row, you can drop the color and pick it back up because you will turn and come back to it. You can also use bobbins instead of carrying the yarn.

Crochet Camper Pillow – Front graph:

Notes:
The color work is worked while turning. So you will want to drop the colors and pick them up when you come back to spot, as opposed to carrying the unused yarn through the whole row.

On row 10, you will very briefly carry two yarns as you are working the middle of the wheel (this is to avoid extra ends)
On rows 12 and 13, carry Dove Heather through the rows of Cobblestone heather so the yarn is where you need it when you pick it up on Row 14.
The colored lights around the window and the red in the wreath are added afterwards with embroidery, so don’t worry about those colors yet, just follow the colors of the graph.
To avoid extra ends, carry the yarn when you can, like when you are working the door. You can use a bobbin of blue for either side, but you can also carry the blue through the white if you would like.

(Using Dove Heather)
Ch 44.

1. (first row of graph) Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each remains chain. Turn.
(43 sts)

2. – 48. Continue working the graph, treating each square as a sc stitch. Check notes for a few times of carrying/dropping yarn. (43 sts on each row)

Crochet Camper Pillow – Back Piece: (solid color piece)
Use same color as the background of your front image.

Ch 44.
1. Sc in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each remains chain. Turn.
(43 sts)
2. – 50. Ch 1. Sc in each st across. Turn. (43 sts)
(you will notice the back piece has 2 extra rows that the front piece. This is to compensate for the color work, which makes the top piece slightly longer. )

Cross-Stitch :
To add a bit of color to the piece, I stitched some lights around the window and added some red to the wreath. I did simple cross stitches to do this and eyeballed where to put them. I also put one Cream cross stitch in the middle of the wreath because that middle stitch was overwhelmed by the green crochet stitches. (go ahead and make your stitches look nicer than mine, mmkay?  :’D) When you are finished, tie off and weave in all ends.

Construction:
You can block your pieces, but it’s not absolutely necessary because it will be stretched to fit around the pillow form. Using some of your leftover yarn from any of your skeins ( I used Hunter , start sewing the back and front pieces together by working a sc through both layers.  (Be sure to start on a raw edge, so you are working on a clean edge when you are sewing the pillow inside.)Do this with the front of the pillow facing you so the right sides of your stitches are facing the front. Work 3 sc in each corner.  Once you have 3 edges sewn up, insert your pillow form (it will be snug). Sc across the remaining side and join with first st. Weave in ends.

I thought maybe adding tassels or pom-poms to the corners would be cute, but I decided against it last minute. Who wants to try so I can see how it would looks?!

    1. you can use the graph to make a c2c, but it would not be pillow size, the squares would go from a sc size, so the size of 3 dc, so it might be more like a blanket. if you try it, let me know what your results are!

  1. Thank you! So stinking cute … we have a lot of camping/campers in our area and these will sell well! Love your patterns!

  2. Hi, I was just wondering if that pillow came in a kit :-D, that way I could buy the kit instead of individual items? I have a friend that I want to make it for, she loves those trailers.

    Thank You.

  3. My yarn just arrived and I can’t wait to get started! However… I just realized that I didn’t order brown for the tree trunk. I’m sure I can find something that will work, but you might want to add that to the material list! Thanks so much for all the awesome patterns. :)

  4. Hi

  6. SO FUN!! My hub and I just bought a camper in late Sept….to visit the kids in and now grand kids that are spreading across the country!!….Thank you too for all your work and excellent patterns…God blessings this Christmas and Coming New Year!!!

    1. Thank you! I got them at Ikea! They are perfect for yarn. The “Billy bookcase” I believe. I got two and then the skinny Billy one for the middle.

  7. Oh my gosh, this is so cute! I have a friend who will love it…another project for Christmas. My list is getting long because your patterns/projects are so cute. Thank you!

  8. I love this pillow! My grown daughter loves to go câmping, so I’m thinking of making her a pillow to keep in her car so it’s always ready for her camping trips. Plus she likes to keep a blanket I made for her In the car for emergencies, and this would go well with that.
    Thanks for the pattern.

  9. Adorable camper pillow pattern. Thank you. It will be the perfect gift for a friend. One question? I’m not seeing how much of the gray yarn is needed. Thank you.

      1. Hi, just wondering will 3 grey do both front and back if I leave back plain? also just 1 of the other colors?? Thanks so much, hope mine is as cute as yours. going to make for a friends bday that loves the little campers.

        1. Yes, you need only a little bit of each of the other colors! UGH, I can’t believe I didn’t put yardage on the pattern, I am so sorry! Yes, three of the gray should be enough.

  10. This is perfect for me! Just bought an old railroad bunkhouse camper as my tiny house- LOVE all the uniqueness of it sooo much. Now I have to make this pillow as part of my Christmas decorations. Always knitting & crocheting for everyone else, so it’s fun to make something I’ll get to enjoy 😊 Might have to make it plain camper on the back so it can be used year round – the whole tiny space thing. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Oh my goddess, what a dream you are living! It sounds wonderful, this pillow will be perfect for you. I am so happy you are making something for yourself!!
