In reply to Mickey. Hi Mickey! Working with colors will unfortunately cause your hat to have less stretch than with one color. Sc is also the least stretchy stitch because of the tight weave, so unfortunately, it comes with the territory. One thing you can do it opt to drag the yarn behind instead of carry it within the stitch, this will give you slightly more give. I hope this helps!

Thank you for this pattern. It’s really eye-catching. I’m trying to advance my skills and try new techniques. When I recently made this hat using the tapestry method, my hat would not stretch. I did slightly tug the yarn that I carried through so that it wouldn’t show on the front, but otherwise felt like I was following directions. Can you help me figure out what I’m doing incorrectly (producing a non-stretchy hat)? Thank you for sharing your hard work!

I love this hat and other but dont quite understand how to change the colours to made this work. Any chance you could make a tutorial on how to change colours making this type of hat? I am a visual crocheter.. :)
