I called it the “almost” 30 minute crochet cowl because, in all fairness, it took me 35 minutes to complete. But doesn’t 30 minute crochet cowl sound better? Plus, I believe I am a rather slow crocheter, so I would be interested in seeing how fast you can crochet it.

ALMOST 30 MINUTE CROCHET COWL

What you need:
-1 skein of Lion Brand Hometown USA
-Size P Hook
Abbreviations:
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet
BLO – Back Loops Only
Sl st – Slip Stitch
Ch 24.
1. Dc in 3rd ch from hook. Dc 21. Turn. (22 sts)
2. – 20. Work in BLO (this makes the ribbed texture)
Ch 2. Dc in same st. Dc 21. Turn. (22 sts)
That is literally all there is to it, quick and simple!
To finished, fold your cowl in half, with the ribbing going vertically. Loosely slip stitch down the sides, going through both layers forming a tube. Weave in your ends using a smaller hook. I normally use a darning needle, but I have am yet to find a needle large enough to fit super chunky yarn! If you would like to make it shorter (more snug around your neck), you can work less rows. You can also work more to make it longer.
I just LOVE those gorgeous, chunky stitches. I have several chunky crochet ideas on my fall and winter list, and I can’t wait to make them happen.

Does the -20 mean you do 20 rolls?
It means rows 2 through 20.
What does the (22 sts) mean?
That is the total amount of stitches for that row/round.
I’ve found a great trick for threading a large plastic Boye Darning Needle with Super Chunky yarn. I use an old fashioned (from my grandmother’s things) knitting stitch holder…the one that looks like a giant diaper pin. You push the rounded end through the eye of the needle, push your yarn through that loop and pull it back through the eye of the needle. Viola, super chunky yarn is now threaded on the needle! It works like a charm! I’ve used on Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick and Red Heart Boutique Boulevard (that’s a #7) with no problem at all. The other thing you can always use is Dental Floss! Get unwaxed, unflavored dental floss and feed it through eye of the needle, put your yarn through the loop of dental floss and pull back through the eye of the needle. Same principle.
