These crochet baby moccasins are a lesson in trying and trying again. The version you see here is the 3rd and hopefully final major update this pattern received. This pattern was difficult for me to get right, but after a bit more trial/error, baby feet usability tests, and pondering, the design and functionality are where they should be.

And the mini tassels don’t hurt, do they?
Using embroidery floss was a stroke of genius that hit me while I was falling asleep. They turned out so cute, and really gives these crochet moccasins a classic look.

Turn your piece 90 degrees clockwise. Work 2 more sts in the last st, making 3 total and forming a corner. Work a neat row of sc down the side of the flap. Work 2 sc at the right side of the curved top of the flap. Sc 2. 2 sc in the other side of the curved top. Sc up the other side of the flap. Sl st with the first st of row 21.

Moccasin Construction: To add the flap to the baby moccasin, pin the round top of the flap to the round toe of the shoe. Thread a length of the yarn on your darning needle and sew the flap in place, using a running stitch (The top colored part of the flap will fold down)

Finish by weaving a length of yarn loosely in and out around the top, and tying in a bow on the outside side.

Create two small tassels with your embroidery thread and sew permanently to the front of the each folded-down flap.

  1. I’m a beginner and the bottom instructions are confusing a little. I think I did it correctly but I also do not have a toe or the flap ontop and I’m not sure which part I crocheted in the last part.

  2. You got me! After reading all of that, Getting here “OKA CROCHET MOCCASINS – CROCHET PATTERN FOR BABY”, to find no pattern at all. You got me!
This is as nice as I can be to a sneaky pattern writer.

  3. Good evening Bethany !

I loooove these cute moccasins !! So adorable !

I’m working on the toe flap but I don’t know how many SC I need to put when making the border. (When making my way to the curved part of toe flap)

  4. I just asked a question about the final stitch count on the 0-3 mo size. My count is 37. I am not doing something right because a couple soles have a different count!

Sorry to have to send a second message.

  5. Hello Bethany, I absolutely, love this pattern! I have not completed a pair yet. I am getting ahead on my baby soles because I want to do more of your shoe/boot patterns!

I have my 4th granddaughter coming in June!

I do have a question. The final count on the 0-3 months should be 30, is that correct?

    Thanks

    Janet

      1. Just getting back to you! My phone completely quit on me and then my computer crashed the next day!!

At the end of the first row, I have 23 sts, sometimes. I believe my trouble is after the w/sl st, I am starting in the wrong stitch. So, I end up with a different count sometimes and it looks bad when I add the new color. It doesn’t look even.

I guess I need to keep working on it.

  6. So we don’t have to join the round on 2nd row for the 3-6 months old size ? I get a little confused, because the pattern said the seam would be in the back, but mine always end up on the side … Thank you .. love from Indonesia, fyi I already made 3 of your pattern for my cousin and they loved them all!! Your pattern is epic !!

  7. I love these!!!! I think in step two of the largest size, after the 2nd 11sc, you are missing the last 2sc in last 2 stitches. It kept coming out weird for me and I think thats what is was! Thank you so much for the free pattern :)

  8. I love the way these came out!!! They do look quite a bit different, but what a wonderful look they have; more toe room, a wonderful flap that folds down with just a tie, and neater and easier seaming. They are just so sweet!!! Thank you for another lovely pattern!!!
