Recently I’ve been dabbling a bit in tapestry crochet. I had some bright ideas that I wanted to try, but to be honest, I kinda felt like I was making it up as I went. Not surprisingly, my projects didn’t turn out as pretty as I had hoped. This isn’t a terrible method, but it’s a bit silly to reinvent the wheel when one already exists, don’t you think? I had the absolute pleasure of receiving this book, Modern Tapestry Crochet by Alessandra Hayden, and I admit, I was a bit intimidated to try it. Those motifs are beautiful but they look terribly complicated! However, after reading her very simple method for tapestry crochet, I realized it is not hard. Like, at all. Look at this gorgeous Quick-Stop Clutch.

Oh my goodness, I think I found a new obsession. My brain is lighting up with all sort of ideas. I attempted a cute mushroom hat a few years ago that I never felt comfortable moving forward with and you better believe that I will be redesigning and publishing that bad boy. And I have an amazing project I am working on for next month, and I absolutely could not have done it if I hadn’t jumped into the deep-end and tried this book.

I decided to start small and make the cute Quick-Stop Clutch. It turned out so adorable! The colors I chose don’t quite do the pattern justice, but I hope you get the idea. I used my beloved Knit Picks Shine, a silky cotton blend. I even adding a lining! My sewing machine is sadly out of commission, but I used some fabric glue to make my liner and it actually work really well. After the glue dried, I simply hand-sewed it in place using a simple running stitch and a darning needle threaded with some yarn.
I also decided to forgo the zipper.
Sigh.
I honestly intended to add a zipper, I swear, but my clutch ended up a weird size (apparently) and my local Joann only had 7″ or 10″ and I really needed an 8″.
But I think my toggle closure turned out pretty darn cute anyway.

I love the clutch! If you do ever want to add an odd ball size zipper, it is possible to customize them. You can sew over the end of the zipper and then trim it.
