FREE Crochet Pattern: Crochet Confetti Tweed Slouchy - This pretty tweed slouchy hat is stylish all winter long, and the earthy flecks are a nod to confetti and NYE!

I love the end of the year. It’s hard to believe that it’s already time to evaluate my goals!  I keep all my goals on a handwritten list taped to my desk.  I use the last week of every December to evaluate them, to see how well I did and how I can raise the bar for the upcoming year. It’s a lot of fun, and goals can truly be achieved if you work hard and keep your internal voice positive. As I was working on my goals, I decided to crochet a new hat, because I am obsessed with hats (apparently). I have had this wool tweed yarn in my stash for a while and I decided to break it out and make something. I settled on the idea for this Crochet Confetti Tweed Slouchy.  I thought the tweed was very fitting for the end of the year, a nod to NYE and confetti, don’t you think?

It’s crazy how a different yarn choice can turn a pattern into something new. This hat is not a new pattern, it’s the hat I made with my Grand Prismatic Spring yarn, my Teton Springs Hat. I love the simple texture the stitches create, and I though it would be so pretty in a maroon tweed.

CROCHET CONFETTI TWEED SLOUCHY

What you need:
-2 Balls of Wool of Andes Tweed(Barn Door)
– Pom-pom {Make a Faux Fur or a Yarn one}
– You can get tags like mine here

The Tetons Spring Hat is such a simple design that you can change it up to suit your liking. I made my original Teton Springs Hat a bit more fitted, but I decided to make this Confetti Tweed Slouchy a bit longer so I added 2 rows of dc decreases on top.

I also added a tag. This tag was slightly easier to attach than the first one, so I think the learning curve is not very steep, it just takes a bit of practice to handle the silky satin fabric.

I love how my hats looks, but I admit, this 100% wool yarn is not the softest. I ordered some Kookabura Soap, the reviews say it softens wool, and I am going to try a few other things to try and soften this hat. It’s so, so pretty that I am determined to not only love the look of the yarn, but the feel as well. I have spent the weekend trying to find other tweed yarns that are as pretty as Wool of Andes Tweed with no luck, so let me know if you have a favorite tweed yarn.  I am obsessed!

  1. Bethany, thank you so much for all your wonderful patterns! Have your tried Loops and Threads Charisma Tweed yarn from Michaels? It’s a bulky weight yarn tho but there are some gorgeous shades and it’s sooooo soft! :)

  2. I love Knit Picks Stroll Tweed yarn! It is fingering weight, but two strands held together work great for a light worsted weight yarn! And it is machine wash and dryable – perfect in this mother’s life with an active 7 year old.

Thanks for sharing your amazing creativity with us!

  3. Vannas choice gray marble isnt exactly a tweed yarn i dont think, but it has some cream/brown/black specks in it what definitely gives it a tweed look! Very soft too.

  4. Have you tried washing the yarn using a little bag you use to wash delicates and Woolite before using it to soften it up?

  5. Thank you so much for all that you share! I am new to the crocheting addiction and love all of your patterns. Going to make this one for sure!!

      1. I love City tweed. It is mainly merino wool and alpaca. I have made lots of baby beanies with it! It almost feels like a silky cotton.

  6. I love the DK City Tweed by Knit Picks. Thinner yarn but the softness can’t be beat. Only drawback I find is it’s hand wash only.

  7. I must be stupid or something because I cannot find a pattern for this version of your hat. I understand that you are using the pattern for your Teton Springs Hat and adding the extra two rows, but I wouldn’t know where to add them because I haven’t crocheted for a while. I very much like your site, your wimsy is so so fun and inspirational. When people are so serious all the time it becomes too stressful and you break that wide open and let the sun shine bright. Fun is I believe is in the constitution. Something about the pursuit of happiness! So about the pattern….. Please help…..

    1. Hello! Thank you so much for your kind words!
I added the two extra rows at the top. So I worked the Teton Springs hat, then when I finished the instructions on that hat, I worked 2 more rows of dc2tog.

  8. I’m making a scarf with Caron Simply Soft tweed. I love the way it looks, but as with all Simply Soft yarns, the tendency to split drives me crazy!

      1. Thank you! I did click on it earlier but thought it must not be it because it looked so different. Wow yarn made such a difference. I feel silly.
