Hello everyone!

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday! Mine was bittersweet. It was our first Christmas with just our little family of three, which was nice, but I missed my family and our traditional Christmas Eve festivities. With most of the busyness out of the way, I decided to share this hexagon scarf with you today! I have been loving the hexagon trend, and I really wanted to incorporate it into a fun pattern.

Free Crochet Pattern - Hexagon Motif Scarf. This fun geometric scarf is made of hexagons and pieced together, very fun for fall and winter.

This scarf is long and warm! I am loving it.

{Keep in mind, I like my scarves long, so if you want to make your shorter, just make less hexagons. }

Hexagon Scarf
Medium Yarn – 3 colors ( I used Caron Simply Soft)

G hook

Hexagons: ( make 14) Finished scarf is about 7’9”. If you want yours to be shorter, make less hexagaons. Each hexagon is about 6” wide (not including the finished border)

Start with a magic ring
 1. Hdc 6 in the ring. Sl st into top of first st.
2. Ch 1. Hdc 2 in same st. Hdc 2 in the next 6 sts. Join wth sl st.
3. Ch 1. Hdc 1 in same st. Hdc 2 in next st. (Hdc 1, Hdc 2 in next st) 5  times.
4. Ch 1. Hdc  in same st. Hdc 1 in next  2 sts. (Ch 1, hdc 3. ) 5 times. ch 1.  Join with sl st. Tie off.

Start second color in the last 1 ch space.
5. Ch 1. Hdc 3 in ch space. Work 1 hdc in the next 3 sts)  6 times. Join with sl st.
6. Ch 1. Hdc in same st. hdc 1 in next st. (Hdc 3 in next st. hdc 5) 5 times. Hdc 3 in next st. Hdc 3. Join with sl st and tie off.

Start third color in the st after where you made your join.
7. Ch 1. Hdc in same st. Hdc in the next 2 sts. (Work 3 hdc in the next st. hdc in the next 7 sts. ) 5 times. Hdc 3 in next st. Hdc 1 in the last 4 sts. Join with sl st.
8. Ch 1. Hdc 1 in same st.  Hdc 3.( Hdc 3 in next st. Hdc 9. ) 5 times. Hdc 3 in next st. Hdc 4. Tie off.

Crochet each hexagon together by placing right sides together and sl st 12 across, going through the BLO on each hexagon (the 2 middle loops of the four loops) . Start in the top corner, join with a sl st and work your way across the top.

1.
Starting in the top right corner of your scarf, join yarn with a sl st in the middle hdc in the corner. Ch 1. Hdc 2 in same st. Hdc 9. Sc 4. Hdc 6. Dc 3. Tc 2 (1 on each side of the join). Dc 3. Hdc 6. Sc 4. (Hdc 6. Dc 3. Tc 2. Dc 3. Hdc 6. Sc 4) Repeat 12 times. Hdc 8. Hdc 3 in the corner st. hdc 12. Hdc 3 in corner.
(Starting up the other side)
Hdc 9. Sc 4. (Hdc 6. Dc 3. Tc 2. Dc 3. Hd 6. Sc 4.) Repeat 12 times. Hc 10. Hdc 3 in the corner. Hdc 10. Join with sl st.  (it’s okay if your sts are not the exact number. Just make sure you are filling in between the hexagons with the sts in between the parenthesis, and just fill in the sc to make it work.

2. Ch 1. Sc in same st. Sc 3 in next st.  Sc all across the side, but work 3 sc at the top of the peak of the hexagon, as well as the corners on the ends.

3. Using one of your other colors, turn your scarf so the wrong side is facing you and sc all around your scarf. Work 3 at the peak of each hexagon, and in the corners on each end. Tie off and weave in your ends.

  1. So, I’m on color 2, first time, and I have octagons instead of hexagons. I’m not playing with it since I’ve already made 7 color 1s. Is this going to bite me in the butt?

    1. well, you are probably going to have the fudge the rest of the pattern, but it should be fine! Just repeat each step a few more times for the extra sides that you have.

  2. Hi again – there was a typo in my last comment – I meant to say do you crochet into the chains or not? Ie do you count the chains as stitches ? Many thanks

      1. Thanks for getting back to me. I am making the hexagons – it’s when I slip stitch to join the second colour that it bunches up.

        1. Oh! Well that is just the way I join a new color. If you have a way that you personally prefer to join, use that method instead. It’s just a color change.

  3. Hi

I have started making this cool scarf but am having a bit of trouble. Do you could chains as stitches? I have been and the hexagons are bunching up. Btw I am new to crochet and welcome any tips !

  4. Hi Bethany, I love crocheting and I saw this scarf you made at the craft o maniac party today. I pinned it and I would to try and make this. TFS and I love your color choice of yarn. Happy New Year.
