I recently had the opportuntiy to try FrogTape Textured Surface. This cool stuff lets you paint textured and rough services, and still gives you a perfectly straight line.I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical. How could it actually work? But this stuff delivers what is promies! It’s very cool. My head is swirling with new project ideas now that I know what FrogTape® can do!The project I chose is pretty easy: a simple brick (47 cents at a local building material store) painted like a candy cane.
To make this project you will need:
A Brick
Acrylic Paint
Spray Paint
FrogTape® Textured Surfaces
Vinyl Lettering or Alphabet Stickers
Top Coat
Precision Knife
First, I painted my brick white using spray paint.
Then, I applied the orange tape from the FrogTape® Textured Surfaces kit.
Make sure to follow the directions! You must wipe down the tape with a damp cloth, especially where the tape meets your surface. Then, immediately brush the liquid across the edges of the tape. Make sure all the edges are thoroghly covered.
Let it dry about 15 minutes, then apply your paint. I did a couple coats of paint to make sure it was fully saturated.
Don’t remove the tape until your paint in completely dry. Carefully pull it off once everything is set.
Look at those crisp lines! Wowza!
Like I said before, follow the directions and make sure you have covered all your bases. I missed wiping down one side with a damp cloth and using the liquid, and it clearly didn’t come out perfect. Oops!
There are a few ways to add letters to projects. I chose to use stickers. I was able to find two sizes that I liked. (Make sure you write out your phrase and buy all the letters you will need. Some sheets only come with one of each letter!)
The best way I have found to apply stickers is to use parchment paper and contact paper.
I lined up my stickers on the parchment paper. They don’t stick very well, so you can adjust them as much as you need to make sure that they are perfect. A great way to move them around with minimal frustration is to use a precision knife. I also added a light outline of the brick to use as a guide, as well as lines beneath the words, to make sure everyting was straight and level. (It’s a bit hard to see.)
Once everything is where you want it, put a sheet of contact paper over it, and press down on all the letters. Lift the contact paper, and your letters should come with it. Apply them to your brick, and make sure they are all pressed down firmly. You can add a top coat over your letters to make sure everything will stay.
So easy. And I’m so glad I able to try FrogTape®! My mind is working on some other projects that it will really help me out with.

Wow! I just love the simplicity but “pop” of this project. I never knew there was such a thing as the Textured Surface Frog Tape. I think I will have to give this a try for the holiday and make a few other bricks for the rest of the year. I always need a brick to keep certain doors open but hate how ugly they look. This will solve that problem! Thanks for sharing.
