Crochet Candle Cozies

What you need: (affiliate links)
Medium Weight Yarn (Knit Picks Brava in Red and Dove Heather)
Pillar Candles -2.8″ diameter (similar)
2 Chunky Buttons
Needle and Thread
4.5 mm hook

Abbreviations: (click for videos)
St – Stitch
Ch – Chain
Dc – Double Crochet

Gauge: 15 dc = 4″ 

Warning: DO NOT burn the candle with cozy! These are for decoration but could be flammable if you like the candle. If you want the ambiance of lit candles, please use the LED light candles for your cozies.
 
Special Stitch: Dc Double Crossover (you can find the video here)
This stitch looks really fancy and lovely, but don’t be scared! It’s just double crochet stitches. Be sure to watch the video! It’s easy once you understand the method. 

Ch 22 (multiples of 4 + 2). Make your chain longer to make your cozy taller. Work more rows to make it fit a wider candle. 

1. Dc in 2nd ch from hook. Dc in each st across. Turn. (20 sts)
2. – 16. Ch 2. *Sk 2 sts. Dc in next 2 sts. Yarn over, cross across previously worked dc and insert hook into first skipped st. Complete dc. Yarn over, cross across 2 dc, insert hook in 2nd skipped st. Complete dc.* work 5 times. Turn. 
17. Ch 1. Dc in same st. Dc in next 2 sts. Sk 2 sts. Dc in next st. Dc 9. Ch 2. Sk 2 sts. Dc in next 3 sts. (20 sts)
Break yarn, weave in ends. 

Using needle and thread, attach buttons on the opposite end as the button holes.

  1. Just found this pattern, how beautiful! I solves the burning candle dilemma by going up one hook size and wrapping the candle cozies around a clear glass candle holder instead of the candle itself and much less dangerous as a gift.

  3. They are really beautiful. But I miss a warning on your page not to lite the candle with the cozy on. It may be a logic thing for most people, but there are always people who do not think about it and you do not want to be the cause of a house fire. So beautiful but dangerous when candle burns!
