This past weekend I completed a project I have been thinking about doing for a while: granny square earrings. Although there are many color options to choose from down the yarn aisle (crochet thread) I opted to go down the embroidery aisle and look at floss! Embroidery floss works wonderfully for earrings because it’s inexpensive and has vast color options.
Additional bonus: you only need a few feet, so each skein goes a long way.

ABOUT THESE EMBROIDERY FLOSS EARRINGS
I whipped up a quick, basic granny square to make these earrings. I wanted them to have at least 3 colors, but didn’t want them to be too big, so I went with three rounds. However, there is nothing magical about my granny square design here, you can simply find your favorite square and work the first 3 (or more!) rounds in your chosen floss color.
Easy peasy!
Below is my granny square pattern for FREE! But I also have 3 additional designed available in the PDF download: A leaf, rainbow, and cactus!
Give the granny square earrings a try and you might be excited to try more :)
What you need:
–Embroidery Floss in 2 colors (all strands)
– Size B Hook (2 mm)
– 2 large jump rings
– 2 small jump rings
– 2 ear wires
– Needle nose pliers

CONSTRUCTION
Using your pliers, open the large jump ring and put it through the ch 1 sp of any of the corner. Close the jump ring. Open the small one and put it on the larger one. Before closing it, put the ear wire on, making sure the nice side of the granny square will face out when they are worn.

What do you think? Would you wear these?
Is the crocheting done with the floss “as Is’ (i.e. twisted together) or with the floss smoothed out?
Either way! I worked straight from the center pull of the floss.
