Muno Hat Pattern

The Boy, in general, doesn’t care too much for TV. However, the one show he actually watches and pays attention to is Yo Gabba Gabba. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a kids show that airs on Nickelodeon, but also streams on Amazon Instant Video ( It used to be on Netflix, but we noticed a few days ago that it no longer is). It’s a fun show, featuring rock and indie bands that sing cute kid’s songs, and gives little lessons about being healthy and kind. There is a lot of singing, I think that is why he loves it. Anyway, I decided to make him a hat that looks like one of the characters, Muno.

I used a size F hook and Red Heart Worsted Yarn (Red)
Caron Simply Soft (White, Black)
Band:
Ch 6.
1. Sc into 2nd chain from hook. Sc 4. Turn
2. Ch 1. Sc 5 into front loops only. Turn
Repeat until your band reaches 19 inched or desired length. 19 inches is a 18-24 month size.
Fold in half and sl st the two ends together to form a band.
This hat is comprised of single crochet stitches and bubble stitches. There are several useful youtube videos that show you how to do the bubble stitch, but I will explain how to do it. It is very easy!

Bubble Stitch: (bc)This stitch is basically just 5 dc worked in one st, leaving one loop on your hook after each stitch is worked. When you finish the first dc, instead of pulling the yarn through both loops on the hook, only pull through the first one, and you will end up having two loops on your hook. Repeat the dc 4 more times, each time only going through the first loop. You will have 6 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 6 loops. Pull tight and poke out the bubble with your finger.
Round 1. To begin hat part. Sc all around the top of the band. Because your sts are now sideways, it is a bit weird, but do your best to make your sts even.
Rnd 2. Ch 1. {Sc 5. 1 bc.} Repeat to the end of your hat. Join with sl st.
Rnd 3. Ch2. Dc all around the hat. Join with sl st.
Rnd 4. Ch 1. Sc 2. 1 bc. {Sc 5. 1 bc} Repeat to the end of the row. Join with sl st.
Rnd 5. Repeat round 3
Rnd 6. Ch 1. 1 bc. {Sc 5. 1 bc} Repeat to the end of the row. Join with sl st.
Rnd 7. Repeat round 3
Rnd 8. Ch 1. {Sc 5. 1 bc} Repeat to the end of your hat. Join with sl st.
Rnd 9. Repeat around 3
Rnd 10. Ch1. 1 bc. {Sc 5, 1 bc} Repeat to the end of the row. Join with sl st.
Rnd 11. Dc2tog all around the hat. Join with sl st.
Rnd 12. Ch 1. {1 Bc. sc 2.} Repeat all around to the end of the row. Join with sl st.
Rnd 13. Dc2tog all around the hat. Join with sl st.
If you are making a smaller hat, eliminate one or a few of the middle rounds, and you can eyeball the stitches to make sure the bubble stitches continue to be off-set.

To close off the top, pinch your hat flat, sc through the middle stitch. Turn your hat and pinch it again, and sc through all the layers. Tie off.

Eye.
Using white yarn:
Ch 5. Sl st into first st. sc 6 in the hole. Join with sl st. ch 1. Sc 2 in same st. Sc 2 in each st all around and join with sl st. Ch 1.  Sc in same st. (Sc 2 in next st, sc 1 in next st) all around the cirl. Join with sl st. Tie off.
Pupil:
Using black yarn:
Start with magic ring.
Sc 6. Join with sl st. sc 2 in same stitch. Sc 2 in each st around. Join with sl st and tie off.
Smile:
Using black yarn:
Ch 15. Sl st 3. Sc 2. Hdc 5. Sc 2. Sl st 53. Turn, ch1 . Sl st 3. Sc 2. Hdc 5. Sc 2. Sl st 3. Tie off.
Using yarn and a yarn needle, sew the pupil to the eye piece, and then sew the whole eye to the hat.
Sew on the mouth, and finish by embroidering teeth with white yarn.

The Boy refused to let me get a good picture. Boo!

Thank you so much for creating this pattern! I dont know what it is about that show, but my daughter loves it too and cares for nothing else. I’m definitely going to try this one out! I would love to make a hat of each character :) I love your blog!
