A few days ago, a good friend of mine contacted me about making some hats for her. She reminded me about a hat I made for my son when he was newborn.
I totally forgot about that hat!
So I decided to share how to make them. They are very simple.
First start with a basic hat.
To make a basic beanie hat, either start with a "magic ring" or chain 5 and sl into first crochet.
Work 6 hdc in the hole of the magic ring, or into the hole made by your chains.
Next, work 2 hdc in each st all around and join with sl st.
{hdc 1, hdc 2 in next st} all around. Join with sl st.
{hdc 2, hdc 2 in next st} all around. Join with sl st.
{Hdc 3, hdc 2 in next st} all around. Join with sl st.
Repeat until your hat reaches desired circumference, then to finished your hat, make 1 hdc in each st around, joining each round.
To give you a starting point, a newborn size is about 6 rounds, or 5 hdc, and 2 hdc in the next st, and then finishing with hdc.
Once you finished your hat, cut out your appliqué from felt.
I used a pattern that I drew up. You are free to use it, if you want!
Next, line everything up and hand stitch onto your hat using embroidery thread. Careful with felt, it can move a little bit and end up being crooked...maybe that's just me!
